Dear Colleagues

This issue of USAEE Dialogue focuses upon the excellent USAEE/IAEE North American Conference that we enjoyed this summer in Anchorage.  Our first ever conference in Alaska was a great success and our photo and article coverage should bring back happy memories to those of us who participated as well as encourage all members to put next year’s conference in New York on their calendars for June 15-18, 2014. (Please follow this link for further information www.usaee.org/usaee2014 .)

In addition you'll find three full-length papers and three summaries of papers presented at the North American Conference.  This sampling of presentations is representative of our organization's broad range of interests and one of the many reasons that our annual conferences are successful in attracting members from all sectors of the energy economics' community: industry, government and academia. In furtherance of our objective to encourage greater participation by members from the business community, this issue also includes a full-length paper entitled “Coal to Liquids: Why and how it makes the case in China“ by Dr. Ning Wu, Senior Economist from TOTAL Energy and Production, USA.  I'm appreciative of the contributions from all of our authors and am confident that you'll find interesting and thought-provoking reading in this issue of USAEE Dialogue.

As you read through this issue, please be thinking about sharing articles of your own research and business interests.  We want USAEE Dialogue to grow in content and relevance to member interests.  Our next issue will appear on-line during the first week of January 2014.  Contributions for that issue will be welcome for consideration from all USAEE members. The deadline for article submissions is December 1, 2013, however, earlier submissions are preferred to allow ample time for editing.  Additionally, and to assist me in planning the editorial process, prospective authors are kindly asked to send me a non-binding expression of interest (EOI) in submitting an article as early in advance of the deadline as possible. Guidelines for submission of articles may be found at this link http://www.usaee.org/pdf/blog/Dialogue_Article_Submission_Guidelines.pdf . Please send EOI's, questions or comments to me at robertborgstrom2@gmail.com.

With very best wishes to all,
